Australia’s Tkay Maidza To Release Self-Titled Debut Album On October 28

Posted on Sep. 27 2016

Tkay Maidza has shared the official video for her massive new song “Carry On“, featuring none other than cultural and political icon / one half of Run The Jewels – Killer Mike. “Carry On” is the first single to be lifted from her highly-anticipated, forthcoming debut album titled TKAY, out October 28th via Downtown / Interscope Records.

The frenetic clip sees a blur of cuts and angles spliced together, capturing the energy and effervescence of Tkay‘s astounding live show, as well as adding weight to her growing reputation as a modern style icon. The video was directed by the acclaimed Vicky Lawton, Creative Director of UK’s Hunger Magazine who is known for her bold, provocative and attitude-heavy pieces of work including Rita Ora‘s clip for “Poison“, as well as stylized content for iconic fashion houses Chanel and Dior.

“‘Carry On’ is kind of about me going through troubles and he acts as a big brother, which is really cool,” she says of Killer Mike as the Run The Jewels rapper gives Tkay some sage advice about busting through the haters trying to stand in her way. “The song is me saying ‘there’s so many people coming round trying to steal something from me but I just want to have fun’.”

Nominated for Best International Act at the 2016 BET Awards, Maidza has already made a name for herself as a must see live act, with support slots with Charli XCX, Mark Ronson and Years & Years, as well as recent appearances at Pukkelpop, Way Out West, Reading & Leeds to name just a few. Tkay is currently finishing up a run of dates opening for What So Not in the US, Seattle’s Showbox SoDo on 9/22 and Portland’s Wonderland Ballroom on 9/23.
